The Dylan Edwards saga with Kansas State football came to its merciful end, and it’s going to serve as a cautionary tale within the new world of college football.
The speedy running back is no longer with the football program, the university confirmed. His exit concluded a storyline that hung over the football program amidst a frustrating year when his play-making ability sure would have helped.
This isn’t a column where you’ll find us crushing a 21-year-old kid who made a handful of decisions in high school that already had him under the skin of many before he stepped on campus. Nor is it one where we question his injury, how he sustained it, how he was in the locker room, etc.
Instead, we’re going to wonder what Kansas State and everyone else should learn from a situation that had been a thorn in the side for much of the year.
Edwards, a four-star prospect out of Derby High, initially committed to the Wildcats in June 2022, before flipping to Notre Dame about a month later. Before he put pen to paper, he flipped once again to Deion Sanders at Colorado in December, where he played for a season.

In April 2024, Edwards left Colorado and put the purple on once again, this time actually suiting up for the team and playing alongside DJ Giddens for a season. The 2025 season was supposed to be his, playing as the partner-in-crime next to Avery Johnson in what was supposed to be one of the most dangerous backfields in the Big 12 and college football.
Iowa State game with an injury before he played an offensive snap. A muffed punt led to an ankle injury, which led to where we are now. A 166-yard performance against UCF provided a look at what it could have looked like, but that was the only game of Edwards’ four appearances in which he actually made a noticeable impact.
We have no reason to believe that he was faking anything or had any nefarious intentions toward the program, as some might suggest on the worst parts of the internet. K-State coach Chris Klieman recently stated that Edwards underwent imaging on his leg, which led to his extended absence. At this point in the season, deciding to redshirt was an obvious move.
