Cavaliers' Garland exits vs. Heat with toe injury

MIAMI — Cleveland’s Darius Garland is experiencing toe problems once more.

The Cavaliers’ two-time All-Star point guard exited his team’s matchup against the Heat in the third quarter on Monday night due to a toe injury on his left foot. It remains uncertain whether this is a worsening of the same issue that necessitated surgery in June.

Garland first began facing the toe injury in March, missed four playoff contests, and was not effective when he returned for Cleveland’s last three games of their second-round defeat to Indiana.

He was absent from Cleveland’s first seven games this season while preparing for a return, then averaged 14 points in his initial two outings against Philadelphia and Washington. He scored 11 points on 2-for-9 shooting in 19 minutes against the Heat on Monday.
