John Cena commenced his farewell tour with the Netflix premiere of «Monday Night Raw» on January 6.

The WWE legend has been competing on a part-time basis since 2018, but he announced in July 2024 that he anticipates wrestling 30 to 40 times in 2025 as he wraps up his final year.

On September 30, WWE revealed that Cena’s last match is set for December 13 at Capital One Arena in Washington D.C.

During his appearance at the Intuit Dome, he presented a strong list of potential opponents for his concluding bout.

Could it be Logan Paul? Would CM Punk fit the bill? Perhaps Roman Reigns would be a more appropriate choice?

Here’s a clue regarding who that might be along with more highlights from «The Last Time is Now John Cena Farewell Tour.»

‘Monday Night Raw’ in Boston — Nov. 11

Returning to his home state of Massachusetts for his final appearance, Cena made history in the venue once more. He faced Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio in a match that WWE CCO Triple H arranged just moments prior.

Mysterio, who held the Intercontinental Championship for 204 days, appeared poised to keep his title. He executed a 619 maneuver followed by a Frog Splash on Cena, then went for the pin. Nevertheless, Cena escaped and transitioned into his finishing move, the attitude adjustment. Cena unleashed the finisher then pinned Mysterio to secure the victory.

With this win, Cena became the most recent WWE Superstar to achieve grand slam champion status — having held every major WWE title (Intercontinental Championship, Tag Team, World Heavyweight, and U.S.).

    Crown Jewel — Oct. 11

In the climactic match of one of WWE’s premier rivalries, Cena triumphed over AJ Styles in Perth, Australia.

Cena and Styles showcased all their skills in this encounter. Cena executed finishers from numerous WWE superstars — an RKO (Randy Orton), Skull Crushing Finale (The Miz), and Tombstone (The Undertaker). Styles honored Shawn Michaels with a Sweet Chin Music.

Ultimately, Cena emerged victorious in a match that had the audience chanting «Thank you, Cena,» culminating in a heartfelt embrace between the two wrestlers in the ring. The Undertaker also expressed his approval of the match.

    Wrestlepalooza — Sept. 20

Cena faced off against his long-term rival Brock Lesnar on a Saturday night. Despite Cena delivering three AAs early on, Lesnar proved too formidable. The crowd cheered for Cena’s resolve, and there is a good chance he will have another opportunity against Lesnar in his final five matches.

WWE Clash in Paris — Sept. 1

Cena made the most of his final European bout, overcoming Logan Paul in an action-packed match. The Paris crowd greeted Cena with an enthusiastic performance of his theme song and five knuckle shuffle.

Cena employed all his maneuvers, even executing a Styles Clash on Paul. He collapsed after delivering his final attitude adjustment and pinned Paul for the victory.

    WWE SummerSlam — August 3

After turning heel just over five months prior to SummerSlam, Cena reverted back to being a babyface, charging out with his classic entrance before clashing with Cody Rhodes in a street fight.

What followed was an extraordinary match that exceeded 30 minutes, concluding with Rhodes defeating Cena to claim the WWE Championship, marking the end of Cena’s reign that began at Wrestlemania 41 in April.

Just before Rhodes executed his finishing move and pinned Cena, he acknowledged the legendary wrestler in a notable encounter. The two then embraced in the ring post-match as Cena raised Rhodes’ hand.

Rhodes then exited, leaving Cena in the ring to savor the moment, only for Brock Lesnar — one of Cena’s greatest adversaries — to make an unexpected entrance. Lesnar then executed his finishing move, the F-5, on Cena, wrapping up SummerSlam.

WWE Night of Champions — June 28

Facing one of the greatest rivals of his career, Cena defeated CM Punk in a tumultuous match featuring numerous interruptions and knocked-out referees.

The first instance saw Punk summon a new referee from backstage, only for Money in the Bank winner Seth Rollins to appear. Rollins joined by Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, who sent Punk crashing into an announcer’s table. Rollins remained in the ring, calling for a referee to cash in his briefcase.

However, as the new referee rushed to the ring, Cena knocked him down, leading to a confrontation between the champion and Rollins.

Towards the match’s conclusion, Cena and Punk engaged in a handshake and hug, only for Cena to turn the tables and attempt his finisher. Punk counted correctly, but Rollins intervened by striking Punk with his briefcase. Moments later, Cena pinned Punk to retain his championship.

WWE Money in the Bank — June 7

Joining forces with Logan Paul against Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso, Cena surged ahead early on — but in-ring discord between him and Paul allowed Rhodes and Uso to regain momentum in the match.

Ultimately, a surprise entry from R-Truth proved pivotal in this chaotic bout as Rhodes ultimately pinned Cena for the win.

    WWE Backlash — May 10

Cena faced off against Randy Orton, two iconic wrestlers clashing potentially for the last time in their careers.

The competitors exchanged blows in a back-and-forth encounter, with Cena inadvertently striking a referee with the championship belt while Orton delivered RKO after RKO on intruders.

As Orton attempted to finish Cena off, R-Truth intervened. While Orton retaliated with an RKO of his own, Cena struck him with the championship belt and secured the pin, winning the match.

The final WrestleMania — April 20

It all culminated here — Cena clashed with Cody Rhodes for an opportunity to become the Undisputed WWE Champion.

The intense match lasted just under 20 minutes and featured a cameo from rapper Travis Scott. Cena ultimately secured his 17th WWE championship, the most in history.

Booed in Brussels — March 17

    «I am not a villain, I am a human.»

John Cena made it evident that he is done portraying the hero during an appearance on Monday Night Raw in Belgium. The WWE icon fully embraced his shocking heel turn with a venomous outburst directed at the audience.

«For 25 years, I have endured an abusive relationship,» he asserted. «All I did was put in hard work and achieve success. And what did I receive in return? I got disdain. It was never sufficient for you.»

«I don’t require you,» he asserted, escalating the hostility as the crowd erupted in disapproval.

But WWE champion Cody Rhodes was not receptive to this.

«Where’s the man displayed on this shirt, right here?» Rhodes remarked, gesturing toward the illustration of Cena executing his signature salute on his shirt.

Labeling Cena «whiny,» he set the stage for their WrestleMania 41 battle — a monumental confrontation set for April 19 in Las Vegas.

Heel turn at the Elimination Chamber — Mar. 1

In his last WWE Elimination Chamber bout, Cena and longstanding rival CM Punk were the final two competitors remaining. Cena triumphed over Punk, claiming his record-tying fourth Chamber match victory and securing his spot at WrestleMania 41.

Subsequently, after Cody Rhodes turned down The Rock’s proposition for his soul, Cena switched to the heel persona and ruthlessly attacked Rhodes after initially shaking his hand and embracing him. Securing the victory in the Elimination Chamber match, Cena will contend against Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41.

A loss in his final Royal Rumble — Feb. 1

Cena appeared poised to claim his third Royal Rumble victory, with only Jey Uso standing in his path. However, Uso rallied and ultimately eliminated Cena from the ring, stunning the wrestling realm.

Farewell, Los Angeles. Hello, Indianapolis. — Jan. 6

«I’m not just attending the Royal Rumble, I’m going to conquer the Royal Rumble!»

Cena announced that the inaugural Monday Night Raw of the year would mark his final WWE appearance in the City of Angels.

After expressing gratitude towards Los Angeles — and specifically, Inglewood — he proclaimed his ambition to regain his 17th world championship – a feat that would surpass Ric Flair’s record in WWE history.

As he contemplated the means to achieve that goal, Cena determined that the Royal Rumble would be his avenue before proclaiming his intention to win it.

The Royal Rumble is scheduled for Feb. 1 in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium.
