Ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has raised doubts about Mohamed Salah‘s role in the titleholders’ lineup, stating that the era of the Egyptian striker regularly starting every match «must come to an end.»
Following a remarkable season last year contributing to Liverpool’s victory in the Premier League and securing a new deal during the summer, Salah’s performance this season has faltered, with only four league goals registered thus far.
Additionally, former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney concurs with Carragher, suggesting that Salah’s contributions to the team may be falling short, leaving right-back Conor Bradley vulnerable, particularly evident in their 3-0 loss to Manchester City.
«Each player must contribute, and it seems this season teams have focused on attacking [Liverpool] down the right,» Rooney stated on The Overlap.
«Salah isn’t tracking back, which poses a clear issue for Liverpool because he’s not returning and lacks the consistency expected from a right-back who plays regularly.
«I believe teams are exploiting that flank. [Manchester] City did, and I felt sympathy for Bradley; he required assistance.»
Carragher proceeded to question Salah, previously Liverpool’s key player and talisman, regarding his starting role under Arne Slot.

«If you’re failing to score at one end while leaving your team defensively compromised at the other, you’re effectively gaining nothing from this strategic approach of permitting Mo Salah to remain forward,» Carragher remarked.
«He’s either going to need to drop back [defensively] or you must select someone else.
«That’s why I mentioned a few weeks back that the time for Mo Salah starting every match, particularly away from home, must come to an end.»
