Ederson: ‘No point’ in being at City if ‘unhappy’

The Brazilian shot-stopper Ederson stated he is «feeling alive in football again» at Fenerbahce after spending eight years at Manchester City.

At 32, Ederson confessed his dissatisfaction at City and expressed a desire to leave the team in 2024.

He transferred to Fenerbahce in September on a lasting agreement and put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Turkish club.

«The previous season, I had attempted to depart [City], but it was unsuccessful,» Ederson remarked during a press conference while with the national team of Brazil.

«That impacted my game; I experienced five injuries and was not performing at my peak. [Leaving City] was a choice made alongside my family; I communicated with the club.»

«There’s no advantage in being at a prestigious winning club if you’re not satisfied. I required this transformation. With this shift, I’m reviving my passion for football and experiencing the thrilling atmosphere of the games in Turkey.»

Ederson played a vital role in City’s achievements under coach Pep Guardiola, including their treble-winning season in 2022-23 and their streak of four consecutive Premier League championships (2021-24).

«I enjoyed eight incredible years with City and secured 18 trophies, but I required this change and a new environment,» he said.

«When Fenerbahçe approached, I welcomed it. I carry my winning mindset, the same attitude I maintained at City and Benfica, and I aim to succeed at Fenerbahçe as well. Sometimes, embracing new challenges in life and career is highly beneficial. It brings fresh energy, positivity, and new experiences within yourself.»

Having last represented Brazil in November 2024, Ederson aspires to take part in his third World Cup next year.

He has been selected for Ancelotti’s most recent squad.

«I missed the previous call-ups due to injury, but my expectations [for making the World Cup squad] are high,» he remarked. «However, no player is assured a place.»

Ederson also harbors aspirations of aiding Fenerbahce in achieving their first national title since 2014.

«I’m extremely content with this opportunity,» he stated. «The club has not secured a domestic title in quite some time. I hope to assist in retrieving that honor and restoring the club to its former glory.»
