The New England Patriots experienced the loss of one of their top athletes during the initial drive of their Thursday night contest against the New York Jets. Defensive tackle Milton Williams left the game after just six snaps and was later reported as questionable to re-enter due to a left ankle injury.

Nevertheless, after going to the locker room, the 26-year-old eventually returned to the sidelines with his teammates later in the first quarter.

In his typical starting position along the Patriots’ defensive line, Williams sustained an injury on a Justin Fields scramble aimed at converting a 3rd-and-4 with 11:40 remaining in the first quarter. Fellow defensive player Christian Barmore collided with him, causing the highly coveted free-agent signing to stay down on the field.

Williams first moved to the blue medical tent before proceeding back to the locker room for a more thorough assessment. However, the situation was quickly deemed less critical.

The Patriots initially brought Williams on board in March with a four-year, $104 million deal. The former Philadelphia Eagles third-round draft pick has started the first 10 games of the season, participating in 65% of snaps and achieving 27 tackles along with 3.5 sacks.
