PSG manager Luis Enrique has shown a willingness to be flexible in the No. 9 role, often using players who aren’t traditional strikers. Last season, Ousmane Dembélé played in that position as the team secured the treble, including PSG’s first-ever UEFA Champions League title.
Although PSG has Gonçalo Ramos, capable of playing as a central striker, the Portugal international often comes off the bench. This gives Enrique the option to pursue a striker who matches his preferred style in the future.

In 2024, Enrique and PSG reportedly targeted a forward to fill the No. 9 role. At the time, the club was linked to Julián Álvarez, who eventually chose to join Atlético de Madrid.
The Chelsea Chronicle previously reported that Álvarez is considering leaving Atlético Madrid, with Barcelona reportedly being the leading option. Meanwhile, Chelsea and PSG remain closely monitoring the situation.

Amid rumors linking Álvarez to PSG, transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri, for Sky Sport, revealed the latest information, suggesting that the capital club could be seeking a No. 9 who fits Enrique’s system.

“Luis Enrique is a big admirer of the Argentine, whom he sees as an ideal profile to strengthen PSG’s attacking line,” Tavolieri wrote. “PSG’s management has been exploring the possibility of a move for several weeks, and Álvarez himself would welcome the chance to play under the Spanish coach.

“Although several English clubs, as well as FC Barcelona, have shown interest, Álvarez no longer plans to return to the Premier League, where he feels he has already given his best.
“The player has left the door open for a move to Paris, provided the clubs can reach an agreement. That said, a major obstacle remains: Atlético’s demands, considered excessive, with a price tag of up to €120 million to release their striker—a figure widely seen as inflated.”
