Jordan Mailata’s defense of Jalen Hurts extends from the field to the radio

So many thoughts flood the mind when thinking about Jordan Mailata and his time in the City of Brotherly Love. One is how the journey started. In 2018, the Philadelphia Eagles spent seventh-round draft capital on a rugby player.

Most of you saw the story as it unfolded live. Here are he cliff notes. Jordan Maialata had never played American football. He didn’t know how to buckle his chin strap upon arrival. Fast forward to the present. He’s coming off an All-Pro season, and what’s impressive is that he can still improve.

Mailata takes his role as Jalen Hurts’ bodyguard seriously. He gives his all to defending QB1 on the field, but that doesn’t end when he clocks out of work.

Jordan Mailata defends Jalen Hurts.

Hurts has enjoyed great moments this season, but he has come under fire lately for consecutive subpar efforts. His left tackle, during 94 WIP-FM’s Jordan Mailata Show, responded to some concerns voiced by Derrick Gunn.

If you’re still getting to know the 2025 Eagles and their team captain, Jordan Mailata, this is par for the course. He loves his teammates. He loves his coaches. He coined the phrase ‘Jeff Stoutland University’.

Someone unfamiliar with the facts and watching the game for the first time may not be aware of Mailata’s story. One of the best tackles in the game, it’s hard to believe he waited so late to try his hand at organized football.

So, here’s our poll question. What’s your favorite Jordan Mailata memory? Is it something like his appearance on The Masked Singer? Was it the time he went Deebo’ on that New York Jets player for hitting Jalen Hurts out of bounds in a preseason game?

We think back to a moment at MetLife Stadium. The Eagles lost a game vs. the New York Giants. QB1 wasn’t at his best. His final deep pass fell incomplete. A much younger Jordan Mailata walked over to a much younger Hurts.

Words weren’t exchanged, at least not immediately, but placing his hand on his Hurts’s back was his way of letting QB1 know things would be okay.

And, what do you know? These two have won many games since then. They’re now Super Bowl champions. Yeah… We can’t wait until someone casts and films their movie.
