Tomlin: Rodgers doesn't need surgery, status TBD

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will not need surgery to repair a fracture to his left, non-throwing wrist, coach Mike Tomin announced Tuesday.

«Really, it’s just about bracing and securing it for his comfort and safety. And then, it’s about how functional he is,» Tomlin said.

The coach said Friday will be a key day in determining Rodgers’ status for Sunday’s game at the Chicago Bears.

«We’ll see where the week leads us and we’ll take it day by day,» Tomlin said.

Rodgers sat out the second half of the Steelers’ 34-12 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals after sustaining the injury late in the second quarter.

Tomlin said Monday that Rodgers wanted to return to the game.

Mason Rudolph took over at quarterback with Rodgers sidelined and would start against the Bears if the Steelers determine Rodgers is unable to play.
