With Jake Paul set to take on what will obviously be the most dangerous opponent to date in Anthony Joshua, it’s been revealed to ESPN that the fight — despite being a ‘heavyweight fight’ — will have some stipulations for Joshua, with him not being allowed to weigh over 245 lbs for the official weigh-in, although there won’t be any limits on what he can weigh on fight night.
Hearn quipped that once the idea of a weight limit for Joshua was presented by MVP’s Nakisa Bidarian, he sort of inflated Joshua’s walking around weight to come to more favorable terms. Joshua is apparently somewhere around 265 lbs but Hearn related to Bidarian that Joshua was around 290 lbs after the sides agreed to an eight round contest that supposedly will feature standard heavyweight gloves in what they say will be a ‘real fight.’
“They said: ‘The only thing is that Jake will weigh about 220 pounds and we want AJ to come down in weight.’ He’s a heavyweight and hasn’t cut weight before. They said: ‘Look we’re not being funny and it’s not that we need an advantage but we need you to have some disadvantage.’”
Joshua, a former two-time heavyweight champion, will still undoubtedly knock Paul’s block off if this is anything resembling a real-life fight, disadvantaged or not.
