Liverpool has confirmed the acquisition of Senegalese defender Mor Talla Ndiaye.
The 18-year-old transfers from Senegal’s Amitie FC for a reported sum of about £1 million ($1.3m).
Ndiaye played for Senegal in the under-17 World Cup held in Qatar last year, making four appearances as the team advanced to the round of 32.
Though he will first join Liverpool’s U21 squad, Ndiaye may later challenge for a position against the club’s senior central defenders, such as Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, and Joe Gomez.
Another young defender recently acquired by Liverpool, Giovanni Leoni, is expected to miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a torn ACL during his debut for the team in September.
