NEW YORK – A month before pitchers and catchers report to spring training, the Yankees have added a little more depth to their rotation.
Tuesday night’s trade for Marlins’ lefty Ryan Weathers – with four prospects going to Miami – gives the Yanks another starting option to open the season, with Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon and Clarke Schmidt due to begin the year on the injured list.

Here’s a look at how the Yankees rotation might look to open the 2026 season:
Max Fried
The veteran lefty is coming off a fine initial season in the Bronx (19-5, 2.86 ERA), but he stumbled in the playoffs after posting a career-high 195.1 regular-season innings.
Cam Schlittler
The rookie right-hander was a welcome second-half addition to a rotation in need, posting a 2.96 ERA in 14 starts and finishing with a sensational playoff performance against Boston. Might be adding a changeup this spring.
Will Warren
Opened in the rotation due to Cole’s injury out of spring training and made a team-high 33 starts, posting a 4.44 ERA and getting some down-ballot Rookie of the Year consideration.

Luis Gil
The right-hander’s 2025 season (11 starts, 3.32 ERA) was delayed by a lat strain and he’s yet to match the success of his first half of 2024, when he was AL Rookie of the Year.
Ryan Weathers
Injuries, including last year’s flexor and lat strains, have impeded his development after being a first-round selection by the San Diego Padres (7th overall) in 2018.
