The Portuguese mentor has been under scrutiny for a below-par 2025/26 campaign thus far, with a section of the Masandawana faithful calling for his sacking.
As a result, reports emerged that Sundowns are in advanced talks to reunite with their legendary coach Pitso Mosimane to succeed Cardoso in the hotseat.
When pressed for comment, the 53-year-old tactician rubbished the claims that his future at Chloorkop hangs in the balance, slamming hogwash reporting.
“The problem is that nowadays people discuss football on the phone, and people speak about things they have absolutely no idea [about] and that gives a lot of echo to things that don’t even exist – and that is the question,” Cardoso said.

«People are thinking and discussing things they would like probably to happen, they have don’t have any idea about and they want to speak about. And having a phone on the hands, having a blog that you create, having some followers – it echoes to people that unfortunately don’t know what they are speaking about.
Cardoso went on to set the record straight that the Downs hierarchy is not swayed by outside noise, stressing the unity within the club.
“Look, Sundowns is a club that is ruled from the inside to the outside, not from the outside to the inside. There’s strong leadership inside the club, there’s strong sports direction, and there’s a very strong coach and a very strong locker room,” he added.
«It’s not from the outside that people will hurt us, the doors of Chloorkop are so strong that those kind of things don’t enter. We are united and we know what we have to do, we are working hard to please our fans as much as possible and we just need our fans not to let themselves to be poisoned by the outside, not to give echo to things that don’t exist – just keep supporting us.
Meanwhile, Sundowns beat Orbit College 2-0 in the Betway Premiership re-opener, thanks to goals from Arthur Sales and debutant Brayan Leon at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Monday.
