Prospective Atlanta Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski is reportedly in a «positive» position to bring Tommy Rees from Cleveland, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Wednesday.
Stefanski and the Falcons are anticipated to name Rees as the team’s new offensive coordinator. Rees previously held this position under Stefanski with the Cleveland Browns in 2025, where he also served as the pass game specialist and tight ends coach the year prior.
Last November, Stefanski entrusted playcalling responsibilities to Rees. However, it remains uncertain who will be calling the plays for the Falcons in the 2026 season.
There had been speculation regarding former Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan taking over as Stefanski’s new offensive coordinator. The Falcons recently appointed his father, Bill Callahan, as the offensive line coach on Tuesday.
Rees, aged 33, played as a quarterback at Notre Dame and joined the coaching staff of the Fighting Irish from 2017 to 2022, serving as quarterbacks coach and later offensive coordinator. He was Nick Saban’s offensive coordinator at Alabama in 2023 for one season before Stefanski recruited him to Cleveland.
The previous offensive coordinator for the Falcons, Zac Robinson, will not be returning following the dismissal of head coach Raheem Morris, who led Atlanta to two consecutive 8-9 seasons.
The Falcons appointed Stefanski last Saturday, retaining defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich from Morris’ coaching staff.
