Captain Rodman scores in USWNT friendly rout

Trinity Rodman capped a memorable week with a goal in her first game captaining her country as the United States women’s national team put on a second-half show to rout Paraguay 6-0 in Saturday’s friendly in Carson, California.

Rodman scored the fourth goal for the USWNT in the 56th minute, one of five times Emma Hayes’ side found the net in the second half. Ally Sentnor scored twice and Emma Sears capped the scoring in the 72nd minute, while there was also an own goal from Paraguay’s Fiorella Martínez.

The U.S. broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time through a debut goal from Portland Thorns forward Reilyn Turner.

All eyes, though, were on Rodman. The star forward was not only leading out the USWNT for the first time but she was doing so just two days after signing a record-breaking contract to stay with the Washington Spirit for the next three years.

The new deal ended months of speculation over Rodman’s future amid big-money offers from Europe and debates over the sustainability of the NWSL salary cap.

Rodman was making her first appearance for the USWNT since a friendly with Brazil in 2025, in which the 23-year-old also scored.
