Raleigh joins Mantle in record books with 50th HR

SEATTLE — On Monday night, Cal Raleigh launched his 50th home run, further solidifying his major league record for homers by a catcher and placing him among elite companions.

Raleigh has now joined Mickey Mantle as the sole switch-hitters to achieve 50 home runs in a season, and he has become the eighth player in major league history to reach the milestone in August.

He is the first athlete to connect for 20 home runs from both sides of the plate in a season, as per ESPN Research.

From the right side, the Big Dumper launched a 3-2 fastball from San Diego’s JP Sears 419 feet into the left field’s second deck.

He is the second player in Mariners history to record 50 home runs in a season. The Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. hit 56 in 1997 and again in ’98.

Raleigh has acquired three home runs in the last two games. He scored Nos. 48 and 49 during Sunday’s 11-4 victory over the Athletics. Salvador Perez previously held the record for home runs by a catcher with 48 in 2021.
