The scheduled fight between Adam Azim and Gustavo Lemos has been postponed.
Boxxer announced that Lemos has suffered an injury in training, after which the promotional company secured a replacement opponent, only to have Azim also get hurt in his final sparring session.
Needless to say, Azim vs Lemos is not happening on January 31, and Azim won’t be fighting a stay-busy replacement, either.
Azim vs Lemos was set to slot the winner into the No. 2 spot in the IBF’s rankings. Richardson Hitchins holds the IBF super lightweight title, and Lindolfo Delgado has the No. 1 contender spot. Azim vs Lemos is, essentially, a semifinal eliminator, as the winner would then in theory face Delgado to earn a shot at the belt held by Hitchins, though it could wind up more than that, as Hitchins could move up to 147 lbs by the time all of that would be settled.
Boxxer gave no word on the severity of either injury nor a rescheduled date, but as of now the expectation is that the fight will still happen on a new date when both are ready to go.
