Ancelotti: Did not instruct Endrick to depart from Real Madrid

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti refuted claims that he advised Endrick to exit Real Madrid during the upcoming transfer window if he wishes to participate in the 2026 World Cup.

The Brazilian forward is expected to be loaned to Lyon in January, as per sources reported by ESPN Brasil, and he has already had discussions with new coach Paulo Fonseca.

Both the clubs and the player reached a verbal agreement over the last two weeks, with Lyon agreeing to pay half of his wages.

At 19, Endrick is seeking more first-team opportunities and has only logged 11 minutes of play for Madrid this season.

«He’s a key player because he represents one of the emerging talents in Brazilian football,» Ancelotti stated to Diario AS.

«We’re monitoring his situation. However, it is untrue that I recommended Endrick leave Real Madrid for the World Cup. This is a subject to be discussed between Real Madrid and the player. He should communicate with the club to determine the best path for himself and for Real Madrid.»

Endrick joined Madrid shortly after his 18th birthday in July 2024, and had a bright start with Los Blancos under Ancelotti, netting seven goals in 37 matches.

Since Xabi Alonso took over following Ancelotti’s exit in May, he has faced difficulties in gaining first-team minutes, and his chances for next year’s World Cup have significantly declined.

Having debuted for Brazil in November 2023, Endrick has now been omitted from Brazil’s squad for the fourth consecutive international window.

Ancelotti remarked earlier this week that it was «crucial» for Endrick to «return to playing and demonstrate his skills.»

Can Vinícius rediscover his form with Brazil?

«Yes, I had a conversation with him [Endrick] at the season’s start,» Ancelotti told Placar.

«He was injured, but he is now alright, back, and needs to discuss with his side about what would be best. Consult the club to see what is advantageous for him.

«Endrick is very young, and this won’t be his only World Cup. He can participate in the 2026 World Cup, as he possesses the talent for it, but he could also take part in the 2030 World Cup, or even the 2034 World Cup, and perhaps the 2038 World Cup. I strongly believe it is essential for him to return to playing and showcase his abilities.»
