What could have been for the New York Giants in Week 18…
After losing control of the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft following a Week 17 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, the Giants still had an opportunity to secure the top spot this past Sunday — with some help.

A loss to the Dallas Cowboys and an unlikely Raiders win (with a few other dominoes that ultimately fell into place), the Giants would have picked first overall in April. And as fate would have it, the stars aligned with a single exception: Big Blue themselves.
The Giants came out on fire and dismantled the Dallas Cowboys, 34-17, ending any hope of securing No. 1 overall before the Raiders even played. And perhaps that’s why the outcomes of the afternoon slate of games sting a bit.
Ultimately, the Raiders did their part. They defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 14-12, and did so in a way that is ironic for the Giants.
Since 2014, 21% of all 60-plus-yard field goals have come against the Giants. All 21% have come late in the fourth quarter or in overtime. So it’s only fitting that Las Vegas picked up their victory with a 60-yard field goal — a career-long for kicker Daniel Carlson.
Understandably, Giants fans reacted with frustration as the kick sailed through the uprights.

In the end, the kick and the Raiders’ victory meant nothing for the Giants because the «damage» had already been done. Still, for Giants Nation, being on the positive end of a 60-yard field goal would have been a nice change of pace.
