Conor Benn looks to nail down his next big fight

In a conversation with iFL TV, Conor Benn spends a lot of time sharing his perspective on a number of topics including his current position as WBC mandatory challenger at welterweight, family feuds, and a whole lot more. Benn, who says he’s in a great position with a lot of options on the table expects to have a more narrow focus on his future in the coming week or so. Here’s some of what he had to say.

Benn on his upcoming plans

“[Aside from the Barrios vs Garcia winner] we’ve got Rolly there, we’d love to make. And if we don’t make progress with any developments by the end of the month [on the winner], then I’ll pull the trigger on getting a Rolly fight made. For me it’s just about being involved in the biggest fights commercially, the fights that are in demand that the public want to see.

“I’ve been made mandatory by the WBC to fight the winner of Barrios vs Garcia. Obviously want Garcia to win but, you know, the WBC’s belt is the belt I want whether that be Barrios or Garcia. Obviously, commercially it makes sense for Garcia but he’s a loose cannon, so you never know with him who’s going to turn up.”

On who else he would consider

“I don’t know who’s really in the welterweight rankings that would interest me to fight, or get me up for a fight. With the Garcias you’re talking megafights. You’re talking Shakur, you’re talking Rolly for the WBA massive fight, you’re talking Haney — they’re massive fights, they’re massive draws. For me, here, I look at the landscape and I don’t think there’s a lot of fighters in the division, really.”

On Nigel Benn refusing to ever speak to Eubank Sr again

“My dad’s not keen…My dad was going on about it all [fight] week.”
