Former England striker Michael Owen has advised Barcelona to think carefully before considering a move for Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane.
While Owen made it clear that he still holds Kane in very high regard as a footballer, the former Real Madrid player believes that signing the English striker at this stage of his career would be a financial mistake.

Speaking to Goal (h/t SPORT), Owen expressed surprise at reports linking Barcelona and other clubs with Kane.

He explained that even though the Bayern striker continues to perform at an elite level, the long-term value of such a deal simply does not add up.
“The problem with Harry Kane is that, although he is still an incredible player, signing him is a waste of money.
“You’re signing him now, but how many years do you get for that? One, two, three, four? I don’t know.

“Obviously, he’s not showing any signs of ageing, but paying these amounts for a few years of performance seems incredible to me,” he explained.

The former England striker went a step further by stating that Kane should never have left English football in the first place.
“I would have loved him to stay in the Premier League. I felt he had all the cards and gave them away for a very low price. I said that at the time too.”

It must be noted that Kane has moved to shut down speculation about a potential summer exit after recent talks.
The Bayern striker has made it clear that he has no intention of activating his €65 million release clause in June. Instead, he is already in talks over a new contract with the German club.

Although Kane explored options in recent weeks and even held conversations with Barcelona about the possibility of replacing Robert Lewandowski in the future, the English forward now appears committed to staying in the Bundesliga.
