Giants QB Jaxson Dart remains in concussion protocol, ruled out for Lions game

Jaxson Dart will not return for the New York Giants this week against the Detroit Lions, interim head coach Mike Kafka announced on Friday. Kafka cited Dart’s lack of progression through protocol as the reason he will miss this week, not the organization being extra cautious.

Dart was back at practice this week as a limited participant on Wednesday and Thursday, but has not cleared concussion protocol.

The rookie quarterback missed last week’s loss to the Green Bay Packers after suffering a concussion in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears.

Dart was forced out of the Bears game after getting injured on a designed QB run.

Dart returned for the Giants’ next offensive drive, but left the game after two plays and was taken to the blue medical tent to be evaluated.

The Ole Miss product has reportedly been told by people inside and outside the organization about being more careful when running with the ball and to better protect himself.

Dart has had an impressive start to his NFL career with the Giants. Through nine games, he has 1,417 passing yards with 10 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He has also been productive on the ground, picking up 317 rushing yards and seven touchdowns — both are tops among rookies.

Jameis Winston, who started in place of Dart last week against Green Bay, will be under center against the Lions.
