‘I got my butt kicked’: Jake Paul comments following Anthony Joshua defeat

Jake Paul suffered the second loss of his boxing career tonight, knocked out in round six by Anthony Joshua. But the fact that Paul got into the sixth round was surprise to many, and something of a moral victory for the influencer-turned-fighter.

In a reserved interview with Ariel Helwani on the Netflix broadcast, Paul (13-2, 7 KO) gave Joshua credit for the win, made no excuses for his loss, and said he plans to take a break after six years of focusing on his boxing ventures.

“Anthony’s a great fighter. I got my ass beat, but that’s what this sport’s about. I’m going to come back and keep on winning,” he said. “[It was] a nice little ass-whoopin’ from one of the best to ever do it. I love this shit and I’m going to come back and get a world championship belt at some point.”

Paul, 28, said he believes he has a broken jaw, and spat blood on the canvas during his interview. He said that he was not surprised he was able to go into the sixth round with Joshua.

“I just got tired, to be honest. It was just so much, handling his weight. I think if I could have had better cardio, I could have kept it up and kept on fight. But he did amazing, he hits really hard. I just did my personal best.”

Paul confirmed that he “for sure” will continue to box and wants a cruiserweight world title. He declined to name a specific opponent or call anyone out.
