‘I’m going to eat him up’: Derek Chisora talks about prospective Deontay Wilder clash

In light of recent news about an upcoming April match between Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora, Chisora speaks with talkSPORT regarding the current negotiations, his belief in the potential success of the event, and his expectation that Wilder will perform better than we have seen recently. Below are some highlights from Chisora’s comments.

Chisora on whether he will face Wilder next

“That’s the buzz at the moment, so we’ll see…That’s what I’m hearing, and I’m just anticipating a call to bring it to fruition…Listen, I’m ready to fight anyone. All I require is a solid contract. The reason we didn’t fight in December was that I didn’t secure a good contract, hence no fight in December. Right now, I’m just waiting for a favorable contract, a reasonable offer, and I’ll get in the ring.”

“A match between me and Deontay Wilder would be spectacular at Tottenham…That’s the plan.”

Regarding this fight possibly leading to an Usyk match later this year

“Listen, if the bout with Deontay occurs and the victor faces Usyk, that would be fantastic. Currently, I’m hearing Usyk will be going up against [Andy Ruiz] in Vegas. That’s the update I’m getting.”

On his mindset concerning that fight

“I just train to my full potential knowing that for the guy in front of me to win, he’d have to knock me out, like completely. If he can’t manage that by Round 10 or 12, I’m going to dominate him. That’s my training mindset…I love to fight, I enjoy the challenge, I embrace everything. So if this fight materializes, let me make this clear to you folks, Deontay’s going to get knocked out.”

On whether he believes Wilder is merely a shadow of his past self

“No. Here’s the thing, he went through a lot with his ex-wife; he even composed a song for her, which unexpectedly went to #1. And you know, when you’re dealing with a divorce, which can be such an emotional strain while still engaged in fights, it tends to diminish the intensity in everything else you’re doing. But the guy I occasionally talk to seems to be getting back on track now.”
