Following Vergil Ortiz’s quick stoppage win over Erickson Lubin over the weekend trainer Bozy Ennis gave his reactions to Fight Hub TV and explains why he rates Ortiz as a great fighter even though he questions whether Ortiz and his team are really up for taking on a fight against his son, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. Here’s some of what he had to say below.
Bozy on his thoughts on Ortiz’s performance against Lubin
“Vergil’s performance was a spectacular performance. Vergil did what he was supposed to do, it was a good fight…It was a great fight and he did his job, and that’s it.”
On who had the better recent performance between Ortiz and Boots
“Well, you can’t really say nothing about it ‘cause they was both almost like the same to me. Boots stopped his guy in the first round, Vergil stopped his guy in the second round. So it was great, it was great to see both of them victorious.”
On Ortiz and his team mentioning their interest likes of Spence for their next fight
“And what really took me out is that he had called Boots into the ring. So, I thought the fight was going to be set. But after that, well Boots said to him he want to shut Oscar up, all the ones that’s running their mouth, ‘I’m going to show you.’ The time is running out. He said ‘so you going to take the fight?’ He said ‘Eddie, where’s the contract?’
“I don’t think [Ortiz] want to fight right now…I don’t know what they doing. I mean, I just hope they make the fight, that’s all I can say. He’s a good fighter, though…We’re not 100% sure Vergil going to take the fight. If not, we’re just going to move on, we’re going to move on to Fundora — another good fighter.”
On whether he would be interested in a Spence fight for Boots
“Nah, I wouldn’t take a Spence fight. Why would you go after Spence? Spence ain’t fought in like three years. Why would you do that?…Spence still got a big name but I would like Spence to get back into boxing and get a few fights before even thinking about fighting Spence.”
