Nigel Benn spent some time airing out his frustrations about dealing with Chris Eubank Sr and Jr throughout the build up to this latest fight, admitting that he’s tired of Eubank Sr’s ramblings and constant searching for the spotlight. Some would bring up the fact that Eubank Sr was noticeably absent from the post-fight press conference after stepping in front of every camera he could find leading up to the fight, and Benn believes Senior has demonstrated that he loves attention more than his actual son.
“He tries to suck all of the oxygen out of the room,” Benn said of Eubank Sr. “I’ll be honest with you, at the press conference I was saying — I’m going to say it now — when they had that little weigh in and we had a face off and he’s dancing because he loves the limelight. He don’t care about his son, he just loves the limelight. And he’s starting to come right next to me and I thought ‘let me just shake your hand’ and I pulled him into a hug and he put his hand up [like a punch] to me, I actually felt like I wanted to [level him].
“So when he tried to shake my hand tonight I thought ‘I ain’t playing your games, mate.’ I don’t even think I’ll speak to him again because I find that he’s a right prat, he’s an idiot. He tries to quote scripture and all that, he don’t even know what he’s talking about…I just can’t get him.
“Back in the day we were never disrespectful about our promoters that’s putting money in our banks, giving us a good life…but the way they talked about Eddie, how disrespectful is it?! Both of them. And then Eubank’s always talking about ‘oh look, we’re struggling at the weight, you’re going to kill my son’ — mate, he’s been a middleweight for how many years, been IBO champion? But as soon as he fights a welterweight ‘oh, we have problems.’ Always bloody moaning, always.
“I’m sick to death of them, to tell you the truth and I’m glad it’s over now.”
