Josh Dobbs discusses what distinguishes Drake Maye’s mentality during the playoffs.

FOXBOROUGH — Throughout the season, there has been one New England Patriots player who has seen first-hand Drake Maye’s approach to each and every game. And that’s none other than backup quarterback Joshua Dobbs.

However, even though these games mean more, Dobbs revealed that Maye is treating this just as he has the entire year.

«I think he’s been consistent,» Dobbs told Patriots Wire. «I think we had enough success during the regular season, where it’s proof that you don’t reinvent the wheel just because the stakes get higher…Obviously, it might be a little bit more heightened awareness or attention to detail in some areas, improvements especially. But our preparation has been consistent.»

And with that consistency, there’s one thing that Maye has done each week that’s stood out to the veteran.

«I think our Sunday meetings go a long way with the skill guys,» Dobbs detailed. «Just a chance to go back through all the plays in the game plan, watch the practice reps of them, clean up anything that we might have, especially with it being player-led and coming from him. I think those go a long way.»

Due to his experience in the league, Dobbs can help Maye and provide his opinion while also being a sounding board for the second-year quarterback.

«I think for me, it’s contributing whenever I see it appropriate,» Dobbs said. «If I see something, I don’t hesitate to make a note of it to whoever it is, if it’s him or the receivers. And I think he does a good job of steering the ship and having good direction and intentionality with this meeting.»

And despite all wanting to get out on the field, he emphasized that this quarterback room is a special one.

«It’s been cool. It’s been a great room. I think each person, individually, has been great,» he explained. «I think we mesh well together as a quarterback room. And surprisingly, that’s kind of rare across the league. I mean, not probably surprising, right? Like, there’s only one quarterback, and we all want to play, and no one really hides that. But I think we have a lot of good people in the room and a lot of people that loves ball and work hard. And I think when you have that, it creates a very healthy environment, especially for a young quarterback to go out and play at a high level.»
