MIAMI — Jake Paul learned the hard way about the different tiers in boxing, as former two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua showcases his prowess on another level.
In a brawl that extended far longer than many had anticipated, Joshua knocked out Paul in the sixth round of their scheduled eight-round main event Saturday night at Kaseya Center. Joshua recorded four knockdowns — twice in the fifth and twice in the sixth — with the conclusion coming at 1:31.
Paul, a social media influencer-turned-professional boxer, danced around Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) during the initial half of the match amid jeers from the crowd. His hesitance to engage secured him some early survival, but his endurance eventually faltered as the sturdy Brit capitalized on his fatigue, concluding the bout with a stunning straight right hand as fans chanted «knock him out.»
«It wasn’t my best outing,» Joshua remarked while acknowledging Paul’s courage to show up for the fight. «It took longer than I expected, but finally, the right hand found its target.»
Due to recent legal troubles, Paul was eager to find a new competitor before year-end.
Paul (12-2, 7 KOs) had always desired to face Joshua, and arrangements came together swiftly for the sanctioned heavyweight match.
There were doubts regarding whether Joshua would regard Paul seriously as a contender, yet the 2012 Olympic gold medalist maintained he wouldn’t underestimate Paul due to his inexperience.
Their contrasting approaches clashed in the ring Friday night, as Joshua aimed for a knockout while Paul focused on survival.
Joshua entered the ring with Philadelphia rapper Freeway performing «What We Do,» while Paul, donning Hulk Hogan-inspired attire, was accompanied by his older brother Logan and the controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine performing «Billy.» Once the bout commenced, they engaged in a tactical match.

Not deterred by the injury, Paul stated he won’t be discouraged and plans to continue his boxing journey.
«Man, I’ve already succeeded in every aspect of life,» Paul commented on the unexpected opportunity to fight Joshua.
He further expressed: «I’m going to return and battle opponents at my weight and aim for the cruiserweight world title eventually. I’ll take a little hiatus. I’ve been pushing hard for six years, so now it’s time for some rest.»
This knockout triumph marks Joshua’s first victory in over a year. More significantly, it paves the way for a potential all-British clash with former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. The two have circled around each other for years, with a fight being suggested but never materializing. Fury is currently in retirement.
«If Tyson Fury is genuinely serious and wants to swap his Twitter antics for some gloves, then come and face one of the best out there,» Joshua stated. «Step into the ring with me next if you’re a real contender. Quit with the talking. Let’s meet in the ring and exchange blows.»
