CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The residence of Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra suffered significant damage due to a large fire early Thursday morning. There were no initial reports of any injuries.
Fire officials in Miami-Dade County reported the fire was reported around 4:36 a.m. Spoelstra was not present in the house at that moment. He led the Heat in Denver on Wednesday night, and their charter flight back to Miami arrived at 5:11 a.m.
Spoelstra got to the residence shortly after the aircraft landed, as multiple fire crews were attempting to control the fire. Smoke was still visible above the property around 8 a.m., but it seemed that most of the blaze had been brought under control by that point.
Fire officials announced a press briefing was set for later Thursday. Property documents indicate that Spoelstra purchased the five-bedroom, six-bathroom residence in December 2023.
