‘No matter what, that boy going to sleep’: Brian Norman aims to stop Devin Haney in title defense

With Brian Norman set to defend his welterweight title against Devin Haney this weekend in Riyadh, both fighters appeared for a final press conference today to discuss their impending collision. Naturally, if you know anything about the participants in this contest you’ll know it wasn’t too long before both father/trainers engaged in a war of words even before the fighters themselves. Here’s some excerpts from the fighters.

Haney on this title opportunity against Norman

“This is a dream come true of mine to be fighting for another world title. This is not my first rodeo so this won’t be anything different. I look to bring back the WBO title back home to me and my family, my team.”

Norman on those who believe he hasn’t faced anyone of Haney’s caliber despite being a champion

“I truly feel like either you got it or you don’t. Of course he has fought, did wonderful things in his time period and what he had going on but it’s time for another face to come up here and do his own thing and that’s what Brian Norman Jr step in at.”

Norman on how he intends to get Haney to fight instead of run circles around the ring

“I mean, it’s only so far that he can go. We in a box, it’s not just like he can run forever. So no matter if he run or he stay there — no matter what, that boy going to sleep.”

Haney on if he has any intention of trading with Norman

“We fight everybody different. Like I said, this is not my first rodeo. I fought Ramirez different than I fought Loma. I fought Loma different than I fought Regis. So the world got to see what game plan me and my team has drawn up and I’m going to beat this guy.”
