Ohio State football poaches another defensive player from Alabama

Ohio State football is now up to 14 total commits in its 2026 transfer portal class and currently sits eighth nationally in the rankings, according to 247Sports. One of those additions came Thursday afternoon with the commitment of former Alabama cornerback Cam Calhoun. Calhoun is an Ohio native from Cincinnati and has already taken a winding path through several programs during his college career.

Coming out of high school, Calhoun was a four-star prospect and the No. 33 cornerback in the 2023 class. His recruitment was unusual. Despite holding 27 offers, he only took visits to West Virginia, Cincinnati, and Kentucky, with most predictions favoring Kentucky or Cincinnati. Instead, he made a late decision to sign with Michigan, where he appeared in two games during the Wolverines’ 2023 national championship season. After one year, he transferred to Utah and put together a productive 2024 campaign, playing nearly 400 snaps and leading the Utes in pass breakups. Following that season, Calhoun entered the portal again and landed at Alabama. This past year, he appeared in 14 games for the Crimson Tide but struggled to carve out a consistent role in a crowded secondary.

Now, after stops at three schools in three years, Calhoun is looking to settle in Columbus and make the most of his final two seasons of eligibility with the Buckeyes. His addition provides quality depth to an Ohio State secondary that already features Jermaine Matthews Jr, Devin Sanchez, Miles Lockhart, and incoming four-star freshman Jay Timmons at corner. The potential is there for this group, and with experienced safeties behind a relatively youthful cornerback room, the pieces could fit together nicely if everything clicks.

Over the past two seasons, Calhoun has recorded 27 tackles, 10 pass deflections, and one interception. He should be able to slide into the rotation quickly and has a real chance to make his presence felt early while competing for a CB3 or CB4 role.
