Ravens’ Lamar Jackson Declares Himself Starting QB Against Steelers

Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson announced he’ll be starting on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jackson missed last week’s game against the Green Bay Packers due to a back injury, after he was forced to leave the Ravens’ 28-24 loss to the New England Patriots the week prior. With Baltimore in a win-and-get-in situation against the Steelers, Jackson announced on Thursday that he will be starting.

“Yeah, 100 percent,” Jackson said after practice on Thursday. “I’m going to be out there.”

Jackson starting for the Ravens isn’t too much of a surprise, given the stakes of the game. The decision also allows the Steelers to focus on the two-time MVP quarterback.

Earlier in the week, Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin said they were preparing for both Jackson and Tyler Huntley, and there are some differences between them.

“I think there’s certainly some things that are exclusive to Lamar, and that’s not taking anything away from Huntley,” Tomlin said on Tuesday. “It’s just certain things that are Lamar and no other human on the planet. But largely, I think they play to a certain personality, regardless of who is at quarterback. I think that was on display a week ago. I think they’re experienced in playing with Huntley. They know how to play with him schematically, and certainly, he knows how to play and has logged some significant reps over his years there.

“… Although it is potentially a backup quarterback circumstance, I think there is some fluidity there from their perspective, and to be quite honest with you, when things get thick, they play a certain way, regardless of who is playing quarterback. Usually the ball is going through the big runner, and that’s what we expect.”

Despite the Steelers being at home against the Ravens on Sunday, Pittsburgh is a 3.5-point underdog, with the winner of Week 18 winning the AFC North and the loser not making the playoffs.
