Arizona Cardinals running back Emari Demercado has sustained a high ankle sprain, making him unlikely to suit up for the upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday.
Demercado exited the previous game against the San Francisco 49ers in the second quarter after logging 8 yards on five carries and contributing two receptions for 12 yards. In his absence, Bam Knight recorded five carries amounting to 24 yards along with a touchdown for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals have faced significant challenges this season, having set a franchise record with 17 penalties in the last game and now suffering their sixth defeat in seven matchups.
If Trey Benson (knee) remains on injured reserve, Knight and Michael Carter are poised to handle the rushing duties against the Jaguars.
On the season, Demercado has accrued 241 rushing yards over 31 attempts, with his single touchdown resulting from a catch.
