EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Abdul Carter did not participate in the New York Giants’ initial series on Sunday, as the rookie was reportedly asleep at the team facility and missed a recent walkthrough, according to a source cited by ESPN.
Carter was sidelined during the opening defensive sequence in the Giants’ home defeat against the Green Bay Packers. The linebacker took responsibility for the situation post-game, acknowledging that he must face the repercussions of his actions.
On Monday, Carter reacted to a social media post referencing The Athletic’s article on the walkthrough incident. He disputed the claim that he had slept through it.
«Was not sleep, actually doing recovery,» Carter posted. «Nonetheless that’s on ME!»
Carter later commented on X: «When the hate don’t work they start telling lies!»

Despite the disciplinary action, Carter recorded one tackle, one quarterback hit, and two pressures during his 45 snaps on Sunday. He played every snap thereafter despite his expected starting role in place of the injured Kayvon Thibodeaux, who was replaced by former practice squad member Tomon Fox.
This year has proven challenging for Carter, the No. 3 draft pick in the recent NFL draft, as he has only registered 0.5 sacks in his first 11 games, though he has had several sacks negated by penalties.
The Athletic noted that tardiness to meetings has been a recurring issue for Carter during his rookie campaign under coach Brian Daboll, who was dismissed last week and succeeded by Mike Kafka. Kafka opted to bench Carter for the opening series as the appropriate punishment.
The struggling Giants (2-9), who suffered their fifth consecutive loss on Sunday, will face the Detroit Lions on the road in Week 12.
