Subriel Matias vs Dalton Smith still under review, could proceed

Per the New York State Athletic Commission, Matias’ (23-2, 22 KO) “adverse finding” revealed a concentration of 0.085 ng/ml. While the World Anti-Doping Association (WADA) treats any amount of ostarine as a violation, this was administered by VADA, which has a threshold of 0.1. NYSAC uses the same threshold, so while the “matter is under review,” there seems to be a good chance that Matias’ planned January 10th title defense against Dalton Smith (18-0, 13 KO) in Brooklyn can proceed.

The WBC, whose super lightweight title Matias holds, is conducting its own investigation. Mauricio Sulaiman claims Matias and his team “have expressed their absolute availability and cooperation as the process unfolds.” We’ve seen Sulaiman and co. extend the benefit of the doubt to some of its favorites, like Canelo Alvarez and Oscar Valdez; no telling whether Matias, whose previously held the IBF belt before losing it to Liam Paro and taking his current title from Alberto Puello, will get the same.

Consider it the American equivalent of tainted beef.
