SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry will be sidelined for a third consecutive game due to an illness. He was declared unavailable two hours ahead of their Sunday evening home game against the Indiana Pacers.
Curry fell ill following a recent road trip that included stops in Indianapolis and Milwaukee. He managed to play through it during a Tuesday night home victory against the Phoenix Suns, but mentioned he felt drained in the second half. He remained at home during the Warriors’ two road defeats in Sacramento and Denver.
After four days of recuperation, Curry was initially labeled questionable for the game against the Pacers, but Warriors coach Steve Kerr stated before the game that the medical team has decided to err on the side of caution, ruling him out.
Curry is expected to perform a workout on the practice court Sunday night and again on Monday morning, according to Kerr. If Curry responds positively, there is optimism that he could return on Tuesday night in Oklahoma City for the opening of a five-city, six-game road trip.
The Warriors started the season strong at 4-1 but have since lost four of their last five games, bringing their record to 5-5. Including playoff games, they have suffered eight consecutive losses without Curry but will face a fatigued Pacers team missing several key players on Sunday night. Pascal Siakam and others are unavailable after Indiana’s loss in Denver on Saturday night, leaving them at 1-8, with their sole victory coming against the Warriors.
