PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers have activated their third-year contract option for talented second-year guard Jared McCain this Thursday.
This decision, confirmed by 76ers president Daryl Morey, secures McCain’s contract with the franchise until the 2026-27 season.
This season, McCain has yet to take the court after experiencing a UCL tear in his right thumb last September.
Last season, McCain played in 23 games, leading all first-year players with an average of 15.3 points. He also recorded averages of 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 25.7 minutes, ranking fourth among rookies with a 3-point shooting percentage of 38.3%. He established an NBA rookie achievement by sinking at least three 3-pointers in eight straight games last November while also hitting the 20-point mark in seven consecutive games.
Unfortunately, he sustained a season-ending torn meniscus in his left knee on December 13 against Indiana.
He was drafted as the No. 16 overall pick in 2024, coming from Duke.
