‘That’s just the way it is’: Oscar De La Hoya shuts down any idea of Jake Paul vs Ryan Garcia

With recent news of Gervonta “Tank” Davis facing a civil lawsuit for violence against a former partner, MVP has officially issued a statement saying that they are currently investigating the issue as it pertains to his scheduled exhibition with Jake Paul, which appears to have to potential to get shut down before it ever happens. With rumors swirling that Paul is currently considering replacement opponents for the Nov. 14 show, Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya had his phone lighting up with questions as to whether Ryan Garcia could fill the void.

“So I wake up to calls from reporters asking me about Jake Paul and Ryan Garcia,” De La Hoya said. “Let me just tell you why this fight isn’t going to happen. Ryan Garcia fights for DAZN and Jake Paul fights on Netflix. I mean, that’s pretty much the bottom like. Golden Boy has a contract with DAZN, Ryan Garcia has a contract with Golden Boy, and that’s just the way it is. This is business.

“Ryan Garcia is probably going to go on a rant saying ‘oh, you’re keeping me from making money’ and this and that and fighting. No. You have to go by the law, by the rules. You have a contract with DAZN, you have a contract with Golden Boy. It just doesn’t happen that way.

“Ryan Garcia’s next fight will be announced, by me, who he’s fighting and when he’s fighting next.”

Garcia last appeared in the ring in May, in what turned out to be an awful performance where he dropped a decision to Rolando Romero.
