22-year-old super welterweight contender Bakary Samake, who currently sits at the top of the WBC rankings, has joined forces with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions ahead of a final eliminator.
Samake (18-0, 11 KO) is coming off of three consecutive knockouts, dispatching Aussie journeyman Wade Ryan, South African kinda-sorta-not-really contender Roarke Knapp, and most recently Venezuelan can crusher Alejandro Ortiz over the last ~12 months. He recently went face-to-face with WBC no. 6 Ermal Hadribeaj for an ordered final eliminator, which would presumably line the winner up for a crack at Sebastian Fundora.
I say “presumably” because God knows what’s going on there. Vergil Ortiz Jr has held the interim belt for over a year now but Sulaiman and co. don’t seem interested in calling his number, leaving Ortiz to trade social media barbs with Jaron “Boots” Ennis instead.
Either way, we can expect Samake’s clash with Hadribeaj to land on a Queensberry show, potentially alongside countryman Tony Yoka if they elect to hold it on French soil.
