One of the dumber title reigns in recent memory will finally come to an end later this week, as Carlos Linares reports that the WBA will strip Lamont Roach Jr of his 130-pound title upon entering the ring to face Isaac Cruz for the interim 140-pound title this Saturday. Interim champ Jazza Dickens, who blew the doors off Albert Batyrgaziev this summer, will be elevated to full titlist ahead of his bout with Hayato Tsutsumi on this month’s Inoue vs Picasso show in Riyadh.
To be clear, I’m not calling Roach (25-1-2, 10 KO) a bad fighter. He’s pretty damn good. His title reign has just been, to use the technical term, stupid as hell.
Anyway, the upside is that Dickens finally gets to call himself a world champion for at least three weeks.
