The cleats often draw inspiration from personal experiences, as illustrated by Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Kelee Ringo, who is advocating for the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
Just days after he arrived to play for Georgia in 2019, Ringo’s mother, Tralee Hale-Ringo, faced a potential cancer scare. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with triple-negative ductal carcinoma, a rare type of breast cancer.
«As women and mothers, we often prioritize family over ourselves, and I nearly paid a devastating price for that,» Hale-Ringo shared with ESPN Radio. «It’s crucial that we, as women and moms, make our health a priority so we can be fully present for our families and children.»
She quickly began chemotherapy before relocating to be closer to Athens, Georgia, and her son. Ringo describes himself as her «greatest support system,» demonstrating patience as she fought through her cancer journey.
This experience propelled Ringo to raise awareness about breast cancer research, highlighting that the illness affects everyone regardless of background. As he continued his college career, witnessing his mother’s struggle shifted Ringo’s perspective on challenges.
Meanwhile, Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze is honoring his grandmother, a former military nurse, by supporting Operation Gratitude. His cleats highlight the Battalion Buddy program, which sends stuffed bears to children of deployed service members.
«I genuinely believe this is one of the most impactful initiatives the NFL has,» Odunze stated regarding My Cause My Cleats. «It’s a win-win. Players collaborate with their favorite organizations, and we all appreciate the unique, custom footwear. This event not only allows us to support meaningful causes on game day but engages everyone involved, which is fantastic.»
Saints quarterback Tyler Shough, inspired by his wife’s work as a public school teacher, chose to back YouthForce NOLA, an organization dedicated to aiding public school students in preparing for their futures.
«I firmly believe that investing in the local youth’s education and opportunities can transform lives and enhance our community’s future,» Shough asserted.
