The roster fallout has begun for Michigan football.
Matt Ludwig, a four-star tight end from Montana, has been granted a release from his signed national letter of intent, program spokesman Dave Ablauf confirmed to the Detroit Free Press. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound athlete out of Billings West (Billings, Montana) was seen as the No. 1 player in Montana, No. 12 tight end in the country and a top-250 recruit in the class of 2026, according to 247sports composite rankings.

This comes on the heels of the Wolverines firing former coach Sherrone Moore on Wednesday, Dec. 10, after U-M found «credible evidence» of an «inappropriate relationship» with a staff member, according to a statement from athletic director Warde Manuel.
Moore was also arrested Wednesday by Pittsfield Township Police and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail on an assault investigation. No charges have been filed, but Moore remains in custody and is expected to be arraigned in the 14-A district court on Friday, Dec. 12.
Behind the scenes, U-M staffers have been in scramble mode to try and protect their players both present and future, but with a void at the helm, there is an expectation that multiple players will look to move to other programs.

Per the NCAA regulations, all players get a 15-day transfer portal window that opens five days after a new, full-time head coach is hired.
A Navy All-American Bowl invitee puts Ludwig in rare air among Montanans. He looked to be the next tight end to come from the mountain states, following the path set forth by Colston Loveland from Idaho. Instead, he’s the first players who will look to play elsewhere.
