
Megan Keith from Great Britain and Northern Ireland secured a silver medal, finishing behind Italy’s Nadia Battocletti in the women’s event at the European Cross Country Championships held in Portugal.
Battocletti made history last year by becoming the first woman to achieve individual titles at Under-20, U23, and senior levels in the championship, finishing in 24 minutes and 52 seconds.
Keith, hailing from Inverness, finished in 25:07 while Turkey’s Yasemin Can took third place at 25:13, and Great Britain finished second in the women’s team competition, trailing Belgium.
In the men’s race, Briton Scott Beattie finished fourth, after a close finish with Switzerland’s Dominic Lobalu, both clocking in at 22:23.
Spanish runner Thierry Ndikumwenayo was the winner with a time of 22:05, followed by France’s Jimmy Gressier in second place at 22:08.
Earlier, Britain’s Innes Fitzgerald delivered a remarkable performance, securing her third consecutive gold in the women’s U20 race.
She finished in 14:35, with France’s Lucie Paturel coming second at 15:07 and Ireland’s Emma Hickey, 16, in third at 15:10, as Britain clinched the team event victory in this category.
A mixed relay team comprised of Holly Dixon, Ava Lloyd, Callum Elson, and Jack Higgins also achieved a podium finish, taking bronze behind Italy and Portugal.
In the U23 men’s division, Ireland’s Nick Griggs emerged champion.
