The Minnesota Vikings came into Week 15 against the Dallas Cowboys with nothing to lose. They had been eliminated from the playoffs earlier in the day with a win by the Chicago Bears, so they came in with unique circumstances against the Cowboys. What they ended up doing with their chance to achieve something without risking something was one of the more impressive performances from the team as a whole.
In reviewing their performance, CBS Sports’ John Breech issued his grades for each team from Week 15. For the Vikings, they earned one of their highest of the season with an A-.

He writes, «J.J. McCarthy actually looked like a potential franchise QB on Sunday night in what was easily his most impressive performance of the season. McCarthy, who threw for a career-high 250 yards, made multiple big throws, including a 23-yard pass on a fourth-and-3 play and a 58-yard pass on a third-and-8. The second-year QB also fooled the entire Cowboys defense on a 1-yard TD run. It’s been a painful season for the Vikings (6-8), but this might finally be the game that gives everyone in Minnesota a glimmer of hope for the future.»
J.J. McCarthy showcased some impressive throws against the Cowboys and their stiff defense. He had some misses, but the impressive plays far outweighed the bad that we saw at times. On top of that, the Vikings’ defense bent but never broke, and they showcased themselves with some depth players stepping up in the process.
All in all, it was a great primetime showing for the Vikings, and now they head into Week 16 against the New York Giants.
