The Chicago Bears have gone through years of toiling with their head coaches and quarterbacks in recent years. While things are great now with Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams, there was a stretch of major busts.

Justin Fields and Mitchell Trubisky stand out at quarterback, but the head coaches have been just as noteworthy. In recent years, Matt Nagy and Matt Eberflus have both been major disappointments and were fired after just a few seasons in Chicago.
But, half a decade later, and former Bears head coach bust Nagy is drawing interest for a head coaching gig from the Tennessee Titans. According to Dianna Rusini of The Athletic, Nagy isn’t just a candidate; he’s a serious option for the Titans.
Former Bears HC bust Matt Nagy emerges as ‘serious candidate’ for Titans job
«Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is viewed internally as a serious candidate,» Russni reports. «Nagy will be in Nashville on Sunday with Kansas City, but NFL rules state there can’t be any job discussions.»

If the Titans do consider Nagy to be a prime candidate to lead their team with Cam Ward, then it’s a risky commitment to make. While Nagy has been with the Chiefs for some time and has been a part of some Super Bowl runs, the Chiefs aren’t successful because of Nagy.
He’s a contributor, and while he’s shown promise, his time with the Bears is a red flag for the Titans to consider. From 2018 through 2021, Nagy was the Bears’ head coach, and things didn’t go exactly as planned.

His debut season was a 12-4 year that resulted in a brutal playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on the infamous «Double-Doink» game.

In the years after that heartbreaking loss, the Bears went 8-8, 8-8, and 6-11 with Nagy before he was let go following the 2021 season.
He wasn’t a complete disaster like some other coaches around the NFL, and didn’t fizzle out as Eberflus did in his final season in 2024, but the ex-Bears head coach was far from the best coach for the Bears.
After a few years with Kansas City, he’s drawing head coaching interest once again, with the Titans expressing interest in the former Bears head coaching bust five years after his four-season stint in Chicago.
