Defending champions Chelsea routed Liverpool 9-1 to advance to the Women’s League Cup semi-finals, joining last season’s runners-up Manchester City, who also secured a comfortable victory.

Sam Kerr netted the first two goals for Chelsea, while Johanna Rytting Kaneryd accomplished a hat-trick.

Wieke Kaptein found the net twice, and both Sjoeke Nusken and Millie Bright also contributed to the scoreline.

Jenna Clark managed to score for Liverpool, yet they have not clinched a win in any of their last four matches across competitions and sit at the bottom of the Women’s Super League.

Chelsea will play against Manchester City away in the semis following City’s 5-1 triumph over West Ham on Sunday.

Kerolin and Lauren Hemp gave Manchester City a 2-0 lead within the first 10 minutes, but Riko Ueki brought West Ham brief hope by scoring with a powerful shot in the 26th minute.

Nevertheless, City responded with additional goals from Grace Clinton, Khadija Shaw, and Laura Coombs.

Arsenal and Man Utd also advance

Arsenal triumphed over Crystal Palace 2-0, while Manchester United defeated Tottenham 2-1 to finalize the semi-final lineup.

A looping header by Laia Codina gave Arsenal the lead after 20 minutes, but Renee Slegers’ squad couldn’t extend their lead until Stina Blackstenius scored in stoppage time of the second half.

Crystal Palace, the sole remaining Barclays WSL 2 team in the tournament, played in front of a record crowd of 3,040 at the VBS Community Stadium.

In contrast, after a thrilling 3-3 draw between Manchester United and Tottenham in the WSL last weekend, United prevailed this time with a close 2-1 victory.

Drew Spence gave Spurs the lead, but Jess Park and Fridolina Rolfo scored in the second half to secure Marc Skinner’s side’s progression.

Arsenal is set to host Manchester United in the semis, which are scheduled for January 21 and 22.
