JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A fortnight ago, following their victory over Indianapolis that secured the top position in the AFC South, the Jacksonville Jaguars expressed their feelings of being overlooked and unappreciated — and they had little expectation that this perception would alter.
Now, after their impressive 34-20 win against the AFC-leading Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High, their focus has shifted entirely. They are not interested in external validation or support, and they are not welcoming any newfound fans.
«Everyone in this locker room, from players to coaching staff, understands that many will likely try to join this bandwagon now, but we don’t want that,» said defensive end Travon Walker during the Jaguars’ postgame show. «They can remain where they are. We’re committed to us. It’s all about the Jags.»
«Forget everybody except for us. I apologize for the strong language, family, but it’s just us against the world,” he added. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who has accounted for 10 touchdowns in just two games, shares this sentiment.
«Let’s hope we don’t gain any,» Lawrence commented after throwing for 279 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for an additional score. «To everyone out there, keep it as it is. It’s fantastic.»
