FIFA says it has received more than 500 million ticket requests for 2026 World Cup

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — FIFA announced on Wednesday that it has had over 500 million ticket requests for the upcoming World Cup.

The governing body of soccer indicated that apart from the host countries, the United States, Mexico, and Canada, the highest number of requests came from supporters in Germany, England, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and Colombia.

FIFA is pricing tickets up to $8,680 each. In response to backlash, FIFA revealed last month it will provide $60 tickets for every match to the 48 national federations partaking in the tournament, and those federations will determine how to allocate them to their supporters who attended prior matches.

According to FIFA, the most sought-after matchup during the third sales phase, which took place from Dec. 11 to Tuesday, was Colombia vs. Portugal on June 27 in Miami Gardens, Florida; followed by Mexico vs. South Korea on June 18 in Guadalajara, Mexico; the final scheduled for July 19 in East Rutherford, New Jersey; the opening game between Mexico and South Africa on June 11 in Mexico City; and a second-round contest on July 2 in Toronto.

FIFA stated it will inform individuals about their ticket applications no sooner than Feb. 5, with allocations to be made randomly for matches where demand surpasses supply.
