‘We can do it next’: Shakur Stevenson and Conor Benn face off after Teofimo fight

Shakur Stevenson may have his next fight lined up after tonight’s dominant win over Teofimo Lopez.

Now in possession of belts at 140 and 135 lbs, Stevenson (25-0, 11 KO) was asked what fight might keep him fighting at 140 or even above.

Stevenson told DAZN’s Chris Mannix that Conor Benn — who was seen in the building all night — was a potential target, saying Benn “motivated” him tonight.

“Hey, Conor Benn, we can get it bangin’, boy! I want that same hydration clause that you put on Eubank Jr and I want a fight,” Stevenson shouted.

Benn then entered the ring, telling Stevenson that he’s “too small.” Benn’s last two fights have been middleweight bouts with Chris Eubank Jr, and while a fight with Shakur would potentially happen at 147 lbs, it should be said Benn hasn’t actually made that weight in four years.

“My skills is too much,” Stevenson said. “Sign the contract! Sign the contract! Let’s make it happen!”

Benn replied, “You can’t punch. You can’t keep me off you. I’ll rough you up.” He barked for Turki Alalshikh to make the fight before the two screamed back-and-forth that they’re not scared of one another.

“He’s food,” Stevenson said to promoter Eddie Hearn, who represents both men. “You’re a little man,” Benn said repeatedly.

“It’s your night,” Benn said with a smile, “but I’m going to whoop your ass next!”

What Shakur Stevenson said after beating Teofimo Lopez

“I picked him apart. I did what I was supposed to do.”

“This is the art of boxing. Hit, don’t get hit, and pick guys apart. I can beat any of these guys. All I’ve got to do is put my mind to it. I told you I was the best fighter on the planet, and I stand by it.”

“I watched him (on tape) and I knew my jab was going to kill him. I told everybody before the fight, ‘They’re going to see I have the best jab in boxing after this fight.’ I saw where he was weak and I capitalized on it.”

“I felt like I was the stronger fighter. I was faster, I was smarter, and I was sharper. I appreciate Teo for the opportunity. He’s one of the best fighters I’ve been in there with, but I did what I was supposed to do.”

“I had to follow in Bud Crawford’s footsteps. He went out there and dominated against Canelo, and he went up in weight. He inspired me. I knew I had to do it. I had it all on my back and I did it.”
