Jacksonville Jaguars’ linebacker Devin Lloyd is set to be a free agent this offseason. Will he return on a new deal or head elsewhere?
ESPN’s Michael DiRocco recently took a closer look at this situation. As DiRocco described, with the franchise tag for Lloyd being $27.45 million, per Over the Cap, the Jaguars are unlikely to use that method to retain him.

This means that Lloyd could end up hitting the open market.
«The estimated franchise tag for linebackers, per OverTheCap.com, is $27.45 million,» DiRocco wrote. «That’s a high number to spend on a linebacker who doesn’t pass rush and the Jaguars are unlikely to use the tag, so Lloyd will be a free agent.»
Now, the Jaguars could attempt to work out an extension before free agency — although Lloyd may prefer to see what his market looks like since he’s coming off a career year.
And even if Lloyd does up a free agent, the Jaguars could still re-sign him, but they will then be competing with a number of other teams to do so.

According to Spotrac, Lloyd is projected to land a three-year contract worth $60.4 million.
Lloyd had flashed during his first three seasons, but his play was sporadic as well. So last offseason, GM James Gladstone did not pick up Lloyd’s fifth-year option for the 2026 season.
Lloyd then went on to make the Pro Bowl and be named a second-team All-Pro. He did a bit of everything for this Jaguars’ defense.
If Lloyd ends up on a new team, the Jaguars will have a big void to fill at linebacker next to Foye Oluokun.
